07.30 WCWD Holstebro banegård

The wild, affectionate and playful animals fill the surroundings like an anarchistic storm until the Baron calls them back with a single sound of the whistle – and they are gone. A dynamic and unpredictable performance filled with energy, surprises, music and life. The street performance will be shown in schools, kindergartens, museums, parks, the train station, the walking street and other places. The project is the result of three years of workshops led by the actress Roberta Carreri with participants from different countries. 10.00 ColourRide

Exhibition with artist Dorthe Kærgaard in Holstebro Library.

The exhibition is open during the opening hours of the library: Monday – Friday: 10.00 – 18.00 and Saturday: 10.00 – 14.00.

The paintings making up ColourRide are part of a larger series, where the artist Dorthe Kærgaard experiments with people and horse figures. In Dorthe Kærgaard’s paintings, humanity plays the main role. She attempts to portray our search through life with all its dilemmas and choices. The ideas derive from experiences, poetry, literature, the course of the world and by antique myths reflecting life today. Everyone will be able to see what the paintings represent. The motives contain many possibilities for interpretation. Dorthe Kærgaard paints recognisable figures and objects, but the viewer will in many cases probably wonder what is going on in the motif. Facing a work of art that wakes one’s wonder and curiosity is important to Dorthe Kærgard. The questions are often more fruitful and meaningful than the answers.

“Dorthe Kærgaard’s paintings are a reference to the inhumane. In style and choice of colour, a manifestation of geometry and harmony, but with motifs as almost chaotic balances, surreal combinations making the paintings stand still, offering a timeless experience and reflection.
The paintings are so saturated with impressions and plans that you feel the moment intensely, as if the moment is both now and always. They become myths. “(Torben Tangsig, 2010)

12.00 Into the Wild

HFKD has taken a different twist on the theme of the week – ”The Wild West”- and composed a group exhibition with some of the most current contemporary Danish artists, all of whom use “The wild” as part of their works. The artists all have a common interest for nature and spirituality. The exhibition is composed of works of art with a general common theme about venturing into the unknown, the wild and the foreign, expressing the incomprehensible nature and the spirituality connected to it. The unknown is what is not yet discovered – what is foreign – and often associated with a particular notion or expectation. An exciting and thought-provoking exhibition by contemporary artists at a high professional level.

Opening hours: Friday 12-16, Saturday – Sunday 11-17
The exhibition is open from 10th June – 30th July
The exhibition is curated by Anna Bak, made in collaboration with Danish Talent Academy and supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, Færchfonden and Holstebro Municipality.

House of Art and Design is an education and exhibition house, primarily for contemporary art. It is the meeting point between a professional, creative arts environment and young students from Danish Talent Academy. The House prioritises communication and dialogue with citizens and the environment.

16.45 Animaglyphe

The word Animaglyphe is composed of anima (soul) / animal and –glyphe, as in the word hieroglyph. It is a drawing of animals and humans in the landscape, a drawing of poignant characters along the majestic beach of Husby. Like the centaur is the result of the dream of merging into one being, Animaglyphe is the centaur’s dream of merging with the landscape.

The spectators gather at Græmvej at 16:45 and will then walk along the dunes all together, until the many Centaurs appear.

17.00 Wild Island fri

The Wild Island is an art installation built on a platform-stage made by local scout groups in Holstebro. The platform will host works of local artists and involves citizens, local associations, schools and scout groups as well as local and international artistic groups. The theme is the “Wild Man” – the wild side present in each of us, linked to instinct, to the totemic animal and to the wild human being still present in the pagan rituals of the rural communities all over the world.

Every day different guests will populate the island from 17:00 to 18:00. On 17 June we will create the final feast event in collaboration with Holstebro Regatta // Reb & Ror, which will bring life to the whole river.

18.00 – 02.00 Shady Town Grand Finale

“The Big Bang! This is Shady Town’s grand finale, a crazy carnival that will burn until deep into the night. Colourful cabaret performances, drag queens, the Tractor Circus, the Cardboard War, the brand new Symphony Re-Think, and a party celebrating the temporary village and dancing long into the night.

18.00 Shady Town Opens
Shady Town opens it’s gates, bars and spaces from 18.00. You are welcome as fellow citizens, friends, visitors, audiences, strangers, creatures, robots, freaks… Together we experiment with co-creation and village-building, offering a thoughtful and wild vision of the art of recycling, rebuilding delapitated things but as new creations based on crazy ideas and visions for the future. Drop in for a chat, play, dance, sing and enjoy spending time together.

19.30 – 20.00 CARDBOARD WAR
Pickup your cardboard swords and join this fantastic battle! The Cardboard War is a playful, environmentally friendly and non-harming way of fighting. Join us and build your own cardboard armour and be ready to sacrifice it during battle. Prior to the Cardboard War there will be two workshops, where you can build your cardboard armour: the SUB FESTIVAL 17 on Saturday the 20th May and on Thursday the 15th of June.

20.00 – 20.30 TRACTOR CIRCUS
Machine meets man and all rules are broken. A floating stage is created as ropes are rigged between agricultural machinery, turning the collaboration between man and huge machinery literally upside-down! Together they capture the poetry – the sharp beauty of honesty and madness unfolds in a twisted universe.

20.30 – 21.30 SYMPHONY RETHINK
With a stringent and minimalist sound, though still grand and chaotic, Symphony Re-think will build the Holstebro symbol of culture, tear it down and construct a new version of ”Maren”, symbolically representing the development of a new and growing culture at the Slaughterhouse.
The two hymns of Maren will be performed by classical and rhythmical musicians – from MGK and locals, directed by Jonas K.P., visually accompanied by Victor Tambo and the de/construction team.

21.30 – 02.00 SHADY CABARET AND DANCE HALL
The Slaughterhouse proudly presents the Friday Night Slaughter Cabaret Show, Shady Town’s grand finale, a crazy carnival that will burn deep into the night. The Slaughterhouse is transformed into a colourful kaleidoscope of theatrical performances, mechanical installations, drag queens, surprising acrobatics, tap dancing, mysterious music, brand new songs and more. Come and experience the paradoxical images and poetic juxtapositions. As the evening slides from acoustic sounds into electronics, the Slaughterhouse explodes into an dance floor where you can shake and shimmy all night.

Also at Shady Town:

15.00 – 19.00 Cardboard Warriors Workshop:
Join us and build your own cardboard armour and be ready to sacrifice it during the Cardboard war afterwards. The workshop is open and everyone can join in. During the workshop, you can sign up for the big war the next day. Just show up – it is all for free! There will also be small workshops before this one – so keep your eyes open and look on the SLASH Facebook page of SLASH, Kulturdivisionen and Subhuset. Prior to this workshop you can also join the workshop at SUB FESTIVAL 17 the 20th May. Here you can also hear more about the Festuge.

16.00-20.00 Concert Hall and Shady Exhibition Room
A robotic orchestra creates a massive cathedral of sound with kaleidoscopes and shadows of light. The exhibition room is loaded with art installations, balloons, moving shadows and video art.
